The SKY is admired for its sleek and sexy design, but falters when it comes to performance and everyday practicality. The Saturn Sky is a two-seat convertible adding up power, more amenities than you can shake a stick at, and a stylish appearance for an affordable price.
Widely praised for its head-turning design, the 2009 SKY makes a fun drop-top cruiser, but falls below its competitors in terms of performance. When you put the top down, then you better purchase a Saturn Sky windscreen / windblocker, wind deflector, (or one for it’s cousin, the Pontiac Solstice windscreen / windblocker, wind deflector). This car is poorly designed with bad ergonomics; suffice to say, the worshipped cup holder doesn’t do much for you. Do this: test drive both the Sky and Solstice, and see if you can really tell the difference between them. The both the Solstice and Sky are built on the same platform, with the Sky, you can get a coupe with a removable hard targa top. Not to be overlooked, the MX-5 Miata will also do you well, and is a great value of a car.
The Sky is made available in two different trim packages, the Base and the Red Line. The standard model is powered by a 173-hp 2.4 liter four-cylinder engine and the Red Line packages a 260-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. Both engines are mated to a five-speed manual or an optional five-speed automatic transmission. The Base comes equipped with: electronic traction and stability control, four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes, 18-inch alloy wheels, satellite radio, cruise control, a security system, and power mirrors, windows and door locks with remote keyless entry. The Red Line adds: dual-exhaust tips, sport-tuned suspension, leather shift knob and steering wheel audio controls. One of the must-have accessories is the Saturn Sky windscreen / windblocker, wind deflector.
All told, reviewers find that the SKY offers great value and is definitely worth a look. “The 2009 Saturn Sky is, first and foremost, a good-looking car,” writes Edmonds. Even though the Saturn Sky is started to get aged, it’s still a head turner. For those looking googly eyes over this great car, that alone is worth the price of admission.”
