What is Dollar Car Rental?

Friday, August 28th, 2009

Not everyone owns a car. Some people who own them find themselves in positions where they don’t have access to their own car. This could be while on a vacation, or while their car is being repaired. Sometimes people don’t want to drive their own car on a long trip. They want to avoid the miles of wear and tear on their own vehicle. That’s where Dollar car rental can enter the picture.

Let’s play make believe.  You live in the suburbs.  But the city is where you have your job.  Your home is within a few blocks of the train station.  You don’t drive much during the week so why own a car?  The car isn’t driven during the week days.  So it makes sense to plan errands such as shopping for a Saturday.  Go to Avis or Hertz for a car for the day.  Return it on Sunday after riding around town, doing the shopping, even driving to a restaurant for dinner.  Most likely for less that $20 all your car needs have been met.  Compare that cost - $20 for a day over the course of 52 weeks is $1040 - to the purchase price of a car plus all the associated costs like maintenance, insurance, registration, emissions, and more which add up to thousands of dollars each year.  The car rental is a bargain.

For people who need the car every day, a purchase is a better option. Maybe the kids need a lift to school each day, but the school bus isn’t convenient for the family and it doesn’t get them to sports practices and music lessons. Maybe the typical daily tasks and errands require more travel and carrying than would be workable on a bus or train schedule. Then it’s like the song lyrics “Buy buy buy” a car. But with a little planning there’s no purchase necessary, just rent from Dollar car rental for the short term use.

Employee travel means reimbursement for mileage.  That cost is fifty cents per mile.  Add it up - $50 a day if someone drives 100 miles. Renting a car from Dollar car rentals or Budget is only $20 each day, plus $12 for a few gallons of gas is still only $32 for that same 100 mile day. That company would do better with a Dollar car rental.

Dollar Car Rental- An Option

Some people don’t own a vehicle.  On occasion car owners can’t use their own vehicle.  This could be while on a vacation, or while their car is being repaired.  At times people shy away from driving long distances in their vehicle.  They want to avoid the miles of wear and tear on their own vehicle.  That’s where a Dollar car rental can enter the picture.

Consider this.  You live in the suburbs.  You work in the city.  There’s a bus stop nearby.  Since you spend so much of your time at work, why have a car sitting in a paid parking space?  The car isn’t driven during the week days.  Reserve Saturday for personal travel needs.  On that day a car can be rented from a company like Dollar or Budget or Avis.  Drive it around town to do all the things needed for that day, use it to drive to the local movie theater that evening, then return it on Sunday.  You now have a car for $20 for your full requirements.  Over the course of a year that’s about $1040, a lot less than owning a car with all the associated costs.  Renting a car is a real bargain.

If a car is always needed, then by all means purchase.  Maybe the kids need a lift to school each day, but the school bus isn’t convenient for the family and it doesn’t get them to sports practices and music lessons.  Maybe the typical daily tasks and errands require more travel and carrying than would be workable on a bus or train schedule.  Buying is the thing.  But with a little planning there’s no purchase necessary, just rent for the short term use.

Employee travel means reimbursement for mileage.  That cost is fifty cents per mile.  Add it up - $50 a day if someone drives 100 miles.  A car rental from Dollar or Budget auto rental is only $20 each day, plus $12 for a few gallons of gas is still only $32 for that same 100 mile day.  The Dollar car rental is the better choice in that example.

So when you making comparing car rentals you will almost aways discover that Dollar car rentals are the most competitive.
