How To Deter Tool Thieves From Breaking Into Your Van or Truck

Sunday, November 1st, 2009

Stealing work tools from vans and trucks is big business these days and many tradesmen are victim to this horrible crime each year. Sometimes there are very expensive or specialized tools that are taken, costing the owner money to replace them and money through lost business.  So what are the best ways to protect yourself against this problem?

Don’t leave the tools. If you want to be 100% sure your tools wont get taken from your van, just take them out. Your van may still be opened up but there will be nothing in it to lose. On top of this most thieves spy on their victims for a while to learn their habits and if you are seen taking your tools away with you every night, they will move on. Some tools are very difficult to remove each night however and so other security measure need to be put in place instead.

Sticker. A very simple yet affective way to deter thieves is to place a sticker on your van saying that all tools are removed overnight. Most van contract hire vans come with these on them already and they have much fewer cases of burglary. This is down to the fact that thieves play a percentage game and would rather target a van they are confident about rather than one they have an element of doubt about. Make sure you hide any tools from view however if you want to rely on this trick

Good security. Finding a van with good security is another great method. Citroen van leasing vans are well known for their security so these are a good choice. The kind of people who target vans will have a knowledge about the various security levels each one boasts. 9 times out of 10 they will choice the easiest option

About GPS Car Tracking

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

GPS navigation is widely used nowaday, but GPS navigation has more useful sides. In GPS navigation there can be an additional device which can serve your car’s security.
For many companies GPS car tracking is the solution that solves many security problems. Government institutions, the police and the army heavily rely on GPS car tracking to limit criminality there are also private users, civilians that turn to tracking systems too. Information on the position of an asset is provided by a small unit attached to the vehicle. A GPS car tracking unit could also record the data or simply transmit it to a computer, a cellular or some other form of central database. The transmission of the signal is not possible unless the GPS car tracking device has an incorporated modem in its structure.

The data provided by a GPS car tracking system is displayed on a map, either in real time or as a later analysis using a customized software. The tracking device also contains a memory card. Although the GPS car tracking system works great for preventing car theft or for different criminal investigations, many people use a GPS device while jogging or hiking as a means to analyze the duration and the length of the trip. Sometimes, by means of a GIS system, you can collect data for future mapping, particularly since a GPS receiver has geo-catching features incorporated as well.

GPS car tracking or GPS tracking through the mobile phone can apply to very more complex investigations from the business environment. When commercial fleets are used, the GPS car tracking units are installed in the vehicles in such a way so that the location is constantly pinpoint, and periodical updates continue to be sent at regular intervals. The data provided by the GPS car tracking system can also be displayed in the form of reports, a system that is widely used both in Europe and in North America.

Taxis and delivery vehicles, luxury automobiles and armored trucks are equipped with GPS car tracking units for a continuous monitoring of the vehicle location. With more special units, one can activate the tracker via a SMS but only in theft cases. The device is thus incredibly efficient for the police and the authorities that have to solve cases involving lost or stolen vehicles. Very often GPS car tracking systems are installed on race cars particularly in the case of long circuits in areas that are more difficult to access.

Friday, July 17th, 2009

In the third annula towcar awards Ford have come out on top with their S-Max winning the best in its class. The same vehicle has also won the large MPV class in the latest British Insurance Car Security Awards.

The annual Towcar awards were judged by a panel of experts from What Car? Magazine, Practical Caravan and the British Camping and Caravanning Club. This year a record number of towing vehicles are expected to take to Britains overcrowded roads as many people are choosing to ’staycation’ rather than travel overseas. Practical Caravan magazine editor Nigel Donnelly has said that there is a real need for unbiased consumer advice regarding towing vehicles as over £1 billion is spent annually in this sector.

In total 39 cars were tested for their towing ability, driving performance when not towing, practicality, value for money and safety. The vehicles were categorised based on their kerb weight. The Ford S-Max came out as the top vehicle in its class of 1725kg to 1899kg towcars.

This year the standard of towcars entered into the contest was higher than ever but the winning vehicle was recognised as not only a fantastic towing vehicle but a fantastic, practical car when not towing a trailer or caravan. This particular award went to the outstanding Volvo XC60.

The Ford S-Max came in for further praise and another award in the 2009 British Insurance Vehicle Security Awards. These awards were established in 2004 to raise consumer awareness of what is best in vehicle security and to recognise thsoe motor manufacturers who ahve produced the most secure vehicles. This year was the first time that vans were included in the assessment of vehicles against the New Vehicle Security Ratings (NVSR) scheme.

The Ford S-Max received the highest score in its large MPV class for the third year in a row and the Ford Galaxy came in a close second. Yet again this affirms Ford’s vehicle security reputation.

These testing security awards are supported by the Home Office, Automobile Association, UK Department for Transport and a number of British vehicle insurers. They are the highest official recognition of vehicle security in the United Kingdom.

The Ford S-Max costs from £19,895 on the road but you could be driving one of these award winning people carriers for a down payment of £809.85 and monthly payments of £269.95 for three years on a Ford lease contract.

If the Towcar award winning Volvo XC60 is more to your liking then you could be driving one of these fantastic people carriers for a down payment of £1,033.17 and 3 years monthly payments of £344.39 on a Volvo lease contract.

So if you are one of the many people aiming to hitch up your caravan, pack up your camping equipment and enjoy some of what Britain has to offer this summer then these award-winning people carriers could be just what you need.
