Post and Vans

Thursday, December 17th, 2009

Without the vans that the post office have it is true to say they would be in even bigger trouble than they are now. The Royal mail seems to be in complete ruins so the question to ask is, how on earth do they manage to deliver all of the mail on a normal day, let alone the day in which they are on strike. Here is how it is really meant to work.

Well what is supposed to happen is that the postman will receive a load of letters and parcels to deliver to the various roads he has been assigned to. Once the postman is out of mail he will stop and wait for the red van to pull up. When the van pulls up the driver will unload the next lot of mail for the worker to use in the next lot of roads he needs to deliver in. So why is it never on time?

Well time is a lot to do with the time that they start. A lot of the time postman are not allowed to start as early as they used too which is why we do often not get out post until the later hours of the day. This is actually rather terrible as in the old days you used to recieve two lots of post in the same day. This was the sole purpose of 1st and 2nd class mail. The 1st lot was also meant to arrive at your door before you left for work in the morning.

Most days you can be very lucky to have your post before you get in.

More stikes means only one thing, the Royal Mail are clearly not up the the job. It would seem the only person with faith in the company is the Queen and in today’s society, is there anyone that cares what she thinks?

Would it be easier for smaller company’s to look into getting van leasing UK or van contract hire to get ahead of the Royal Mail? Commercial vehicle leasing has allowed many people to start up businesses because it would seem it is cheaper than buying the vehicle outright.

How To Deter Tool Thieves From Breaking Into Your Van or Truck

Sunday, November 1st, 2009

Stealing work tools from vans and trucks is big business these days and many tradesmen are victim to this horrible crime each year. Sometimes there are very expensive or specialized tools that are taken, costing the owner money to replace them and money through lost business.  So what are the best ways to protect yourself against this problem?

Don’t leave the tools. If you want to be 100% sure your tools wont get taken from your van, just take them out. Your van may still be opened up but there will be nothing in it to lose. On top of this most thieves spy on their victims for a while to learn their habits and if you are seen taking your tools away with you every night, they will move on. Some tools are very difficult to remove each night however and so other security measure need to be put in place instead.

Sticker. A very simple yet affective way to deter thieves is to place a sticker on your van saying that all tools are removed overnight. Most van contract hire vans come with these on them already and they have much fewer cases of burglary. This is down to the fact that thieves play a percentage game and would rather target a van they are confident about rather than one they have an element of doubt about. Make sure you hide any tools from view however if you want to rely on this trick

Good security. Finding a van with good security is another great method. Citroen van leasing vans are well known for their security so these are a good choice. The kind of people who target vans will have a knowledge about the various security levels each one boasts. 9 times out of 10 they will choice the easiest option

2009 Security Award Goes to Renault Trafic Van

Monday, August 17th, 2009

Finding the best model of van for your business that’s within price range but doesn’t skimp on the safety and security features is hard to find.

However, the Renault Trafic can make that decision a whole lot simpler. The Renault Trafic, which has recently won the 2009 Security Award, is the best selling van created by Renault. The van won the award at the 2009 British Insurance Vehicle Security Awards, it was only this year that vans were included into the awards, making Renault’s achievement even more special.

The van was given the award due to the large number of security features that the van contains. Anti-drill door locks, Thatcham category one alarm and remote central locking with deadlocking are all just a few of the security features that are included in the Trafic van. One big feature is the Renault Anti Intruder Device that will automatically lock all the van doors when the van travels above 5mph.

This van has proven to be successful for a large number of business, not to mention Renault. The only down side to the van is the price which comes in at £17,000 for the standard vehicle. However, there are ways to get your business using this van without paying the full price, and that is van leasing.

By taking out a Renault van lease, you can seriously save some money for your business, while still getting the latest model Trafic vans. With a Renault Trafic lease you pay a monthly fee for the van rather than paying £17,000 for your own van, plus you still get to benefit from the huge number of security features that come with the Trafic van.

Whether you are a new business or an experienced business, many businesses have found that by leasing their vehicles, they can save large amounts of money. Getting stuck with large bills for vehicles when setting up your business is the last thing you want, by leasing you pay monthly. Leasing is a great way to supply your business with the best vans at an ideal price.

Truck Registrations Continue to Fall in June

Monday, August 17th, 2009

More sales figures from the motoring industry have been released, this time for van and truck sales. Figures for truck registrations in June show falling registrations, however, van registrations are showing improvement.

The amount of truck registrations has been falling every month and the latest June figures show the largest month on month decline yet. With only 2,761 new trucks being registered in June, this is a 47% fall from June 2008.

On the other side of the sector, van registrations have seen some improvement. In June the amount of van registrations reached 17,158 units. These figures show a 40.1% fall in registrations from June 2008, however, this month on month fall is actually the smallest so far. This means that the van sales level could be improving.

One manufacturer that did particularly well in June was Renault. They managed a 78.5% rise in sales during June for their van and light truck models. One model in particular that did well was the Renault Trafic van. Renault have found the Trafic van to be their bestselling van to date, plus with it winning the 2009 Security award recently, the sales should continue to rise.

The amount of truck and van sales is affected by a number of factors. One big reason is that many companies are waiting for van and truck prices to fall again in an attempt to get the best deals. Although the amount of companies buying vans is falling, the amount of van leasing companies buying vans is on the rise, this is because the companies that aren’t buying vans are choosing to lease vans instead.

Many companies are finding that getting out a Renault van lease is working out cheaper in the long run rather than buying a brand new van. So if you are looking for a Renault Trafic lease, you will often get a better deal because you are only paying monthly for the van, rather than paying a bulk sum for a new van.

So even though that the amount of van and truck sales coming from companies is falling, the amount being bought by leasing companies is rising.

French Distrbutor Orders 100 Electric Vans from Modec

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009

Modec, a Coventry based van company announced yesterday that they had sealed a £3m van contract with a French distributor. This news closely followed the announcement that their urban delivery van was the first to gain EC Whole Vehicle Type Approval. This means that Modec can sell the van to any EU country without having to be restricted by further vehicle testing.

The electric van manufacturer has benefitted from business from Tesco’s, UPS, FedEx and Center Parcs just to name a few. They can now add ElecTruckCity to their client list because they made a deal of £3m for 100 vehicles.

ElecTruckCity is a van dsitribtor based in France, they are now going to be the first French Modec distributor. Chief executive of Modec, Bill Gillespie, said this about the announced deal: “International demand for Modec is extremely strong. ElecTruckCity has taken the lead by setting up a distribution network in France and we are very excited about the future of the French market.”

The vans that were bought by ElecTruckCity were the popular urban delivery vans. There are currently 150 of these vehicles based in the UK cities belonging to customers like Tesco’s. These Modec delivery vans are becoming ever more popular because they have been design for the city. The Modec van can travel 100 miles on the lithium battery at only 15p per mile, whereas a petrol powered van would cost around 37p per mile.

The vans also save more than 9 tonnes of CO2 each year, this helps companies like FedEx and UPS reduce their emmissions considerably, aswell as improve their corporate image.

As these Modec vans become ever more popular, it appears that the common vans that you see around like Citroen vans or Nissan vans will have alot of competition as more and more companies want to get greener.

Modec are also entering into the tipper van market with their new electric tipper van. This new vehicle has been designed for councils refuce collection. These are most likely going to become popular as we see an increase in councils becoming greener.

I also wouldn’t be surprised if we started to see an increase in van leasing companies that are investing in Modec vans as alot of companies that are currently leasing their vans may be interested in a cheaper, more greener alternative.

Keeping Up With The Van Fleets

Saturday, July 4th, 2009

The latest development in GPS technology is here and companies are already putting it to good use. Vital information such speed, directions and location could only be relayed the the driver of the vehicle with old GPS models. This is the kind of data that can now be read on a computer screen on the other side on the globe, making everyone’s job easier. A taxi company or Ford van leasing company for instance would benefit enormously. Let’s look at the main advantages of these GPS systems

Speeding. The velocity of the vehicle has previously just been for eyes of the driver but now the bosses can see too. Some devices can show if the driver is accelerating or breaking too aggressively. This helps companies establish who is driving well and within the law, and who maybe needs more driving training

Petrol.  Before GPS there was always a risk that drivers, especially in the van leasing game, would claim petrol money from their employers for miles that were covered whilst not on work hours. Minimal information could be taken from the tachometer but it was very difficult to prove that the miles were not covered in work time. However, as information such as mileage, time of travel, and exact route can be mapped, its very hard to get away with claiming more petrol money than needed. The latest traffic information can also be fed into them

Location. Knowing the location of each of your team on the road is invaluable for speeder responses. There is no longer a need to call each and every driver to find their location, you can just look at a computer map and send the nearest vehicle to the location.

EMP Would Destroy Around 90% Of All Vehicles

Thursday, June 18th, 2009

A new study over 90% of all cars on the road in the UK and around 85% of the vehicles in the US would be rendered completely useless if an electromagnetic pulse (EMP) were to be released upon them. The research, which was commissioned by alpha wire management producer Hellerman Tyton, showed that almost all cars would cease to work and cost thousands to repair if they were in an EMP blast zone. The newest EMP blasts are capable of taking out any electrical equipment within a 250 mile radius, but Hellerman Tyton have said that very few countries have this level of EMP technology.

An EMP works by creating a huge electrical current that overloads any semiconductor elements that are found in electrical items beyond all repair. This means that any electrical devices that include semiconductors, which include all computers, phones and media devices, would be completely ruined. Most cars now also include a large range of electrical systems to help them run and would lose function of all of its fuses. As we relay so heavy on our vehicles for transport, this would have a massive effect on the economy of the effected country. This is why a large number of countries are not only concerned about the technology but also looking into developing it themselves.

Hellerman Tyton go on to say that soon even more cars would be prone to an EMP due to the governments new car scrappage scheme. Cars that are being made nowadays include a much greater amount of electrical implements than older cars. Their new technology makes them more functional but ultimately more vulnerable to these sorts of attacks.  Even the new obstuction light technology being fitted to a lot of cars will no longer work if they are subject to an EMP burst. There is not a vast amount we can do to protect ourselves unfortunantly as their will also be an ever increasing demand for the newest technology to be put in our cars. All we can do is keep our fingers crossed that this EMP technology does not get used
