The Importance Of Sorting Your Vehicle Insurance

Thursday, June 18th, 2009

There are so many negative possibilities to driving without having insurance cover, some of them very severe. Despite this 1 in 10 drivers in the UK and US take to roads without it and put both themselves and others in all sorts of danger. Lets us examine what exactly you could be facing if you make the choice to drive without being fully insured.

Penalties. Depending on where you are, there are a variety of different penalties that the authorities can pin on you if you get caught. One of the most common penalties is getting points put onto your licence, which will then cause you premiums to increase, may effect other types of insurance you have and can even cause employment issues. For example, if you want to take a driving job, you will more than likely need to have completely clean licence. More often than not you will receive a fine also, which do tend to be on the expensive side and will certainly be more than insurance would have cost you. If you are an employer and you don’t have business vans insurance for instance, you may even lose your whole fleet of vehicles.

Damage. If you are unfortunate enough to be involved in vehicle accident and you don’t have insurance, the fees for damage caused will take your breath away. Not only will you be footing the bill for your own car’s damages but any other vehicles involved will have to be repaired using your money if the accident was your fault. People can also be charged for damage to the road, signs and even damaged trees.

Medical fees. If the worst should happen and you are involved in an accident that is your fault and causes people to suffer injuries, you’ll soon have some big extra costs to face. Medical fees tend to spiral quite rapidly and can go on for years after the accident when people claim for ongoing physio or operation costs. To be honest, you’ll end up spending a great deal more that it would have cost you to get cover to start with

Safety On Vans A Priority

Thursday, June 11th, 2009

The government in the UK has stated that it is looking into the possibility of offing van owners a £1K to get rid of their old van a long as they are older than 9 years. The logic behind this was much the same as the government’s car buy-back initiate. Along with an injection of activity into the new-car market, there would also be a dramatic reduction in the amount of old and dangerous cars on the road. Due the fact there are more than 5.5 millions vans in the UK that are over 9 years of age, there are definitely reasons to do the same for vans. Also new vans filter into the van leasing market over time so there are knock on positive effects. So what are some of the main safety features that can be seen on modern vans?

More strength in chassis. Something that has been seen in almost all new vans is a dramatic increase the strength of chassis. Vans have traditionally be used to carry large heavy loads and their chassis have always been strong. However, what was being found it that chassis were weakening over time and causing some dangerous accidents when they gave way. To combat this the new chassis are build of stronger alloys and are treated to resist rust and aging.

Airbags. Airbags are pretty much standard in cars now but they there introduction into vans came much later. Even then, for the majority of vans there were only front airbags placed in the steering wheel and maybe passage area. New vans tend to offer front, side and even impact airbags in the major cavities.

Electric handbrakes. As previous suggested, one of the main jobs of a van is to carry heavy cargo. A major down floor in older vans was that when the handbrake began to wear down or malfunction, serious accidents were caused on the road as vans would roll down hills and cause untold damage. This was a particular issue seen in Citroen van leasing. A great deal of newer vans offer an electric handbrake that can engage automatically and offer better functioning which will hopefully reduce the incidences of accidents.
